Our volunteer drivers are the lifeblood of the Scheme, nothing moves without them. If you are a people person, compasionate and reliable we would like to hear from you. Volunteers can be from all walks of life, including:

  • People in retirement
  • Students
  • Unemployed
  • Parents with school age children
  • Working people who give time on evenings and weekends
  • Part time & shift workers
  • YOU?

We appreciate that people’s lives are busy and ever changing, so we try and arrange our service around this. Volunteers might just do a few trips per month whilst other drivers give many hours to drive clients on a very frequent basis. It is up to you to decide how much you can and would like to give.

To make it work though, we are looking for reliable and comitted volunteers because we aim to deliver the best possible service to our clients.

The current mileage rate is 45 pence per mile and miles are counted from your home to the pickup point on to the appointment venue and back. The client will pay you at the end of the trip in cash and you will issue them with a receipt if requiered. It is as simple as that!

And if the appointment involves a long waiting period, you can leave and return at an arranged time or when you are called. This will be discussed before the trip. Naturally, you will be paid for the extra miles. But it should also be kept in mind that costs must be kept reasonable for the client.

So if you have some spare time, a car and a clean driving record we would be very happy to hear from you. You could make an enormous difference to people’s lives and your community.

  • I wish to offer my services as a volunteer driver.
